"My 'Harmless' Prank on My Sleepwalking Boyfriend Uncovered a Secret Life"
Liam is a deep sleeper. Like, log-rolling, nothing-can-wake-him deep. He also occasionally sleepwalks, usually just wandering to the kitchen for a midnight snack and then shuffling back to bed with no memory of it in the morning. It was more amusing than concerning, and honestly, sometimes I'd leave little notes for him to find in the morning, pretending he'd had a secret adventure. Harmless fun, right?
Well, last week, I decided to up the ante. Liam had been stressed about a big presentation at work, and I thought a little lighthearted prank might cheer him up. I waited until I was sure he was in a deep sleep, then I very carefully rearranged some of the furniture in our living room. Nothing drastic, just swapped the armchair with a small side table and turned the rug slightly. My plan was for him to be slightly disoriented in the morning and have a little chuckle.
That night, around 3 am, I heard the familiar creaking of the bedroom door. I pretended to be asleep, a smile playing on my lips, waiting for the inevitable confused mumble from the living room.
But instead of a confused mumble, I heard… a conversation. A hushed, urgent conversation.
I cautiously crept to the bedroom door and peeked out. Liam was standing in the middle of the rearranged living room, but he wasn't alone. There was another figure with him, silhouetted against the faint moonlight filtering through the window. I couldn't make out who it was, but they were whispering intently.
My blood ran cold. Who was in our apartment in the middle of the night? And why was Liam talking to them in his sleep?
I strained to hear what they were saying, but it was mostly unintelligible murmurs. Then I heard Liam say, quite clearly, "The package is secure. I'll make the drop tomorrow night."
Package? Drop? My playful prank had suddenly taken a very dark turn.
The other figure whispered something back, and Liam nodded. They then moved towards the front door, and I heard the soft click of it closing. I waited a few agonizing minutes before daring to move.
Liam was back in bed, sound asleep, as if nothing had happened. The living room was exactly as I had rearranged it. But my mind was racing. Who was that person? What package? What drop?
The next day, I was a nervous wreck. I tried to act normal, but every time Liam mentioned work or his presentation, I couldn't help but see him in that shadowy living room, whispering about a mysterious package.
That evening, I couldn't take it anymore. I confronted him. "Liam," I said, trying to keep my voice steady, "did anything… strange happen last night?"
He looked at me, confused. "Strange? No, I just had a weird dream about the furniture moving around." He even chuckled a little, completely oblivious.
I pressed him further, asking if he remembered talking to anyone. He insisted he didn't.
Now, I'm terrified. Was he really sleepwalking? Or is my boyfriend leading a secret life I know nothing about? The "package" and "drop" sound so… illicit. Could he be involved in something dangerous?
My silly prank has unearthed a whole new level of anxiety. I don't know what to believe. Part of me wants to think it was just a vivid dream he was acting out. But the figure in the living room felt so real.
Has anyone else's partner ever done anything truly bizarre while sleepwalking? Or have I accidentally stumbled upon something I shouldn't have? I'm torn between confronting him again and secretly following him tonight to see if there's another "visitor." Help me, Reddit. My harmless prank might have just ruined my relationship – or worse.
